A UNIQUE APPROACH

My Background

As a high performance health educator, clinician, and fitness instructor, I specialize in improving metabolic and hormone imbalances, including diabetes, sleep and gut issues, as well as disordered eating, and the anxiety and depression that so often accompanies chronic health issues.

With more than 25 years of experience as both a Registered Nurse and Certified Nutritionist, my clinical background is diverse with advanced training in Functional Medicine and Nutrigenomics.

I am especially passionate about nutritional psychiatry and the power to heal both mind and body through the resolution of root causes.

Sue Bentsen, MS CN RN does not bill insurance. A receipt for services rendered, a "superbill" can be provided for reimbursement.
Eligibility for insurance coverage is very individual, it is advised that you inquire with your insurance company regarding coverage of
nutrition counseling with respect to your individual policy.

Welcome to our series of frequently asked questions. If you need additional information after reviewing these FAQs, simply use the contact form below to send us your inquiries. We'll get back to you ASAP!

WHAT IS NUTRITIONAL MEDICINE?

Nutritional Medicine practitioners look “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in a patient’s history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. A person's unique genetic makeup is considered, along with both internal (mind, body and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect health and well being.

An evidence based treatment plan combined with effective and sustainable strategies to build changes into one's daily life can lead to lasting change and reversal of chronic health issues.

WHAT FOOD PLANS DO YOU USE?

Specific Food Plans, when appropriate, are customized to each client. These may include Mediterranean, Low Carb, Keto, Keto-Flex, Low FODMAP, SCD, Elimination Diets, Cardio-Metabolic, Low Oxalate Diets, Low Histamine Diets, Wahl's Auto Immune Paleo (AIP), and more. Comprehensive screening and careful monitoring is a part of any recommended food plan. Extreme diets or a life time of food/food group elimination is not recommended.

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER NUTRITIONIST SERVICES?

Eligibility for insurance coverage is very individual, it is advised that you inquire with your insurance company regarding coverage for medical nutrition therapy (MNT) with respect to your individual policy.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

Payment can be made with debit or credit cards. In some cases a Health Savings Account credit card can be utilized. Payment is due in full within 14 calendar days from date of service.
Sue Bentsen, MS CN RN does not bill insurance, however a "superbill" can be provided for you to submit for potential reimbursement.

IS LAB TESTING AVAILABLE?

Yes, lab testing is available and often recommended. If you wish for lab testing to be billed through your insurance it is necessary for it to be ordered by your primary care provider. A lab "wish list" can be provided so that you can make this request with your care provider. Otherwise, we will facilitate a lab order, direct ship any neccessary lab test kit(s) to you and assist you with obtaining a blood draw either at a Labcorp site or with a mobile phlebotomist, when needed.

IS TELE-HEALTH AVAILABLE?

Tele-health is available world-wide, however services rendered are considered "consult only" and thereby subject to greater limitations for insurance reimbursement. It is recommended to check with your insurance provider prior to contracting for service.
